Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Lighting Installation in Boulder.

Can you add recessed lights to a finished ceiling?

Yes. Most of our recessed installs are retrofit — we open small access holes, fish the wire, cut the cans in, and patch as little drywall as possible. If the ceiling is on the top floor with attic access, it's cleaner. On a first-floor ceiling with a bedroom above, we work from below and keep the patchwork to a minimum.

How much does it cost to install recessed lighting?

Rough number: $200 to $300 per can for retrofit work in a finished ceiling, less per can on new construction or exposed ceilings. A typical kitchen retrofit of 6 to 8 cans runs $1,200 to $2,000 including the fixtures, switching, and dimmers. We quote the full job on paper before we start.

Do you install ceiling fans, even where there's no existing fan box?

Yes. A regular light fixture box isn't rated for the weight and wobble of a ceiling fan — we replace it with a fan-rated brace box. If the existing location has no wiring at all, we can run new wire and add a switch. If the fan is heavier than average, we upgrade the brace accordingly.

Can you install landscape lighting around my yard?

Yes — path lights, uplighting on trees, wall washing, downlighting under eaves, and full outdoor low-voltage systems. We bury the wire, set the transformer, aim the fixtures at night so you see what you're actually paying for, and walk you through how to tweak the system later.
