EV Charger Installation in Fort Collins, Colorado

Fort Collins homeowners and businesses count on Three Crowns Electric for ev charger installation. We've been serving Larimer County since 2002 — our trucks are on Fort Collins streets every week, from Colorado State University and Old Town Fort Collins to the neighborhoods that need us most.

Level 2 (240V) EV charger installation for Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Emporia, Grizzl-E, JuiceBox, and every other major brand. We also handle hardwired 240V outlets for customers who bring their own charger. Most installs include a load calculation, a dedicated breaker in the existing panel (or a panel upgrade where required), conduit run, and final commissioning. We size the install to your actual EV — current car, planned second car, future battery.

We cover every Fort Collins neighborhood — Old Town, Midtown, Campus West, Harmony Corridor — and zip codes 80521, 80524, 80525, 80526, 80528. Whether you're in a 1970s ranch or a brand-new build, the scope is the same: diagnosis first, written quote second, work starts only when you say go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about EV Charger Installation in Fort Collins.

What charger should I buy?

For most homeowners: Tesla Wall Connector if you drive a Tesla, ChargePoint Home Flex or Wallbox Pulsar Plus if you don't. For renters or people who might move, a hardwired 14-50 outlet plus a portable charger is the flexible play. Tell us your car and your situation on the first call and we'll give you a straight recommendation — we don't sell hardware, so there's nothing for us to push.

Can I use my existing 100-amp panel or do I need an upgrade?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We start with a load calculation — your existing loads plus the new charger circuit. If your house has a 100-amp panel, gas heat, gas range, and no hot tub, we can usually get a 40A charger in without an upgrade. If it's a 100-amp panel with electric heat and a heat pump, we'll probably recommend the upgrade and tell you why on paper.

How much does EV charger installation cost?

Typical range is $800 to $2,500 for the install itself, not counting the charger hardware. The price depends on the distance from the panel to the charger location, whether we're going through finished walls, whether the panel needs a new breaker or a panel upgrade, and whether you want hardwired or a 14-50 outlet.

Should I hardwire the charger or use a 14-50 outlet?

Hardwired is cleaner, supports higher amperages (up to 48A for most chargers), and doesn't need a GFCI outlet that can nuisance-trip. A 14-50 outlet is more flexible if you might move or upgrade chargers later. Both are code-compliant — we'll ask about your setup and recommend the right one for your specific install.
